Fun Without Cliches is a quick and simple plugin to help you check whether you have fallen back into the same tired old cliches when you write.
The plugin checks a list of cliches — based on this list — against the content when a post is viewed in draft and highlights any cliches a ghastly pink colour. For example:

You can download the plugin from WordPress extend.
I haven’t had much time to check the list so if there is anything in particular that you think should be added, changed, or removed, let me know.

It's not a plug-in, but the AutoCrit Editing Wizard does exactly what you're after.
Check it out at http://www.Autocrit.com
I have an English degree, so there's no excuse for me if I don't write correctly. ;)
There would be a lot of things that would be too difficult to implement. I need to dig some of my old writing guides out of storage and see what's possible.
One thing I was just thinking about is implementing a commonly misspelled word checker. Then, adding the correct spelling in the title of the element surrounding it. That way, when the author hovered the word, he or she would see the correct spelling. There are several other words and phrases that should be removed as well.
I have a few ideas. Once I get a little free time, I'll sit down and see how feasible they are.
Thanks Justin. I think I am quite bad with cliches; they are just so easy to use. :-)
I am starting to take writing quite seriously, although mostly for my day job, so I have been thinking about what other plugins I could write. I think a lot of them could be very difficult to create though. For example, how do you determine whether an adjective is over-used or not?
I am certainly happy to entertain any suggestions though.
Very cool. I try to avoid cliches at all costs, but it's easy to slip up once in a while when in the laid back environment of blogging.
What would be even cooler would be a plugin that checks for all sorts of writing mistakes. Maybe we should take the entire Elements of Style book and convert it to a plugin.
