A few days back Fun with WordPress passed its first birthday. It feels like it has been so much longer. To celebrate this I have picked out one post from each of the past twelve months to revisit.
It is interesting to look back and see which topics have moved on, and which haven’t, and also where my opinion may have changed as I have gotten used to WordPress, and the way it is developed.
Here are the posts:
Categories have been around forever, but native tagging is a relatively new thing in Wordpress. I have mixed feelings about tags, in fact I have never really used them, and I wonder how useful they really are.
Contrast this with my more recent post: Categories are not necessary.
By nesting widgets it is a fairly simple process to allow the sidebar to switch from left to right, and to control the content in both the sidebar and the main content. I have created a sample theme that contains only the code necessary to do this, you can download it at the bottom of the page.
Contrast this with my post from this month: Where next for themes?
I am quite looking forward to Wordpress 2.4, not because of any features but because of the promised redesigned admin interface.
Well, we all know how that turned out don’t we, but at least we have a knew hero in Jane Wells, Usability Guru at Automattic.
