A few days ago Leland wrote at Themelab to ask is there a market for porting WordPress themes over to other platforms. He mentioned Drupal, Chyrp and Habari in particular. Having given it some I think he asked the wrong question. A better question would be: should themes work across multiple platforms?
In some cases this is a non-question but between WordPress and Habari there is scope for making one theme work on both platforms.
Right now the market for Habari themes is small but Habari is reaching the point where people are going to start trying it out, and when they do there is a strong chance that they will want to keep their theme. If it is true that Habari is the next WordPress.org (and this is possible, although by no means certain) then getting in early could be to your advantage.
In my next post I will explain how to do it and demonstrate how I have gone about creating a theme that works on both WordPress and Habari.

You bring up a good point, Andrew. I’m really looking forward to your next post on how to create a theme which works for WordPress and Habari.
